Welcome to Gill Beck

a cosy self-catering holiday cottage sleeping 5 - Caldbeck, Lake District National Park

Gill Beck, a lovely pink-washed Cumbrian cottage sleeping 5 in 3 bedrooms is located in the prettiest part of Caldbeck beside the Cald Beck. Access by foot is over the little white bridge and by car down a short driveway with parking outside the cottage.

Caldbeck, a village with many amenities is far removed from the traffic and crowds of the South Lakes but is a vibrant community with pub, 2 cafes, well-stocked village shop and post office, 12th-century church, school, village green complete with duck pond, doctors' surgery - even a hairdresser!

Good for both fell and easier walking, the Cumbria Way goes through the village and the Reivers and Coast to Coast Cycle Routes pass nearby.

High Pike and Carrock are adjacent and the peaks of Blencathra and Skiddaw within easy reach. Equi-distant between historic Carlisle and Penrith the market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth are also only 30 minutes drive away.

The scenery around Caldbeck is both beautiful and varied, from the gentle rolling countryside bordering the village to the rugged fells beyond. The village itself is full of history from the legendary John Peel's burial place in St.Kentigern's churchyard to the ruins of the Bobbin Mill in the spectacular Howk Gorge with its waterfalls to which a foot path leads straight from the village green.

Sheep wander at will through the village (don't forget to shut the gates!) and the area is rich in wildlife including red squirrels and the indigenous Fell ponies which graze on nearby Caldbeck Commons. Bassenthwaite is the seasonal home to ospreys which come back to nest each Spring and can be seen from various viewpoints or on CCTV on Whinlatter

Why choose Gill Beck?

Some of our recent testimonials...

"We have just enjoyed a wonderful long weekend at Gill Beck. The village of Caldbeck is so beautiful, with fantastic amenities. The cottage was perfect for us and had everything we needed. The only down side was having to come home!" Nicola

"We really enjoyed our week at Gill Beck. It is a bright, comfortable and well-appointed cottage, with everything we needed. We particularly appreciated the collection of walking maps and Wainwright guides. Caldbeck is a small quiet village with a nice pub and a small shop and post office and a couple of places serving food and coffee. It's a great base for exploring the Northern Fells, and there are some nice walks along the beck from the village." Max
